Our main dishes of the evening were rigatoni alla Matriciana (that’s how it was spelled), gnocchi alla coda vaccinara and tonnarelli a la gricia. These were delicious with noted qualifications that the guanciale pieces with the tonnarelli were judged too large (!), the gnocchi were assessed under-salted while the coda vaccinara sauce seemed a little thin, and my serving of rigatoni was enormous (no complaint there). We booked for Sunday lunch and came hungry so we could try two courses! The restaurant has a neighborhood vibe and was packed with locals enjoying the food. My meal was great - fried gnocchi with cheese and pepper was a great start, crisp and crunchy Ina cheesy sauce. Then rigatoni pasta with an fresh tomato Amatriciana sauce, again perfect pasta, perfect sauce. Then my veal steak - seared to perfection, juicy, lemony, soft, meaty and a perfect end to the meal. I wish I'd had more room for dessert as the ones I saw looked beautiful! Recommended for a real family restaurant experience with great food.
The Heart of Roman Trattoria Dining Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars Stepping into Da Cesare al Casaletto felt like stepping into the quintessential Roman experience. This is more than just a restaurant; it is a living, breathing trattoria with a typical Roman spirit that envelops. The Authentic Experience: The menu is a showcase of typical Roman dishes—the classics like Cacio e Pepe, Amatriciana, Gricia are all executed to almost perfection. Adding to the wonderful authenticity, the staff is staff is nice, warm, attentive, and helpful. Wine & Verdict: Beyond the food, the wine list is excellent. It is extensive, thoughtfully curated, and focuses on quality, value, and artisanal/natural wines, offering great pairings for the hearty Roman cuisine. While one can certainly find more expensive restaurants of comparable food quality in Rome, Da Cesare al Casaletto offers a combination of authenticity, traditional food, an excellent wine selection. If you are in the area, this place indeed deserves a visit. It is a genuine taste of Rome that you will not forget. Assolutamente fantastico!
Authentic, great service and great food! It’s worth travelling a bit outside the city to visit this place. Try the carbonara, it’s amazing!
We were in Rome for Easter and this place came highly recommended. It was about a 20 minute uber ride outside of city center but well worth it. Atmosphere was perfect, just what we were looking for. Food was just incredible, fried artichoke, pesto meatball, pastas and fish were all delicious. House wine was insanely good and reasonably priced as well. Service was leisurely but kind and courteous. We definitely stood out as Americans but were welcomed in and really enjoyed our Easter lunch meal here. Highly recommend!
